Article #196 Mobile Printer Compatibility Guide

Solid Sales Pro, operating on any type of handheld computer, is compatible with a wide range of wireless Bluetooth printers. Due to the sheer amount of wireless computers and printers though, it’s impossible to thoroughly test every configuration and combination of these hardware devices. As such, Solid Innovation recommends to our clients only the hardware available on our Solid Store to ensure the compatibility of these devices as they have been quality tested.

Aside from our recommended products though, there are still many other wireless computer and printer combinations that may work with our software. To help chart the compatibility and settings required for these wireless devices to work with each other, below can be found the Mobile Printer Compatibility Guide. It contains all of our known handheld computer and printer combinations, as well as the settings that make them work.

If you have a wireless handheld computer and printer combination that’s not yet listed in this guide, we’d love to hear from you so it can be added to this list.

Compatible Handheld Computer:

Each ‘Compatible Handheld Computer’ listed in the Mobile Printer Compatibility Guide will be listed as:

Approved:

This handheld computer has been tested by Solid Innovation and approved for use with this printer.

Confirmed:

This handheld computer and printer combination is used by Solid Innovation clients, but has not yet been tested by Solid Innovation for approval. Results not guaranteed.

Not Approved:

This handheld computer and printer combination has been found to be not compatible by either Solid Innovation or client testing.

If a handheld computer is not listed for a listed printer, it’s because that particular combination has not yet been tested by Solid Innovation or reported by a client as having been tested.

Configuration Settings:

Every printer uses certain codes to decipher what should be printed on the page. These codes have been numbered in Solid Route Accounting as printer types 1-4. Please ensure the printer type for the mobile unit record that will be using this handheld computer & printer configuration is set to the ‘Printer Type’ number given.

Enterprise Edition:

This setting can be found for the desired Mobile Unit Record in Solid Business Central at [Datafile / Cost Center / Mobile] as the field ‘Printer’.

All Other Systems:

This setting can be found in Solid Mobile Central for the desired Mobile Unit Record at [Mobile / Information] as the field ‘Printer Type’.

In Solid Sales Pro, once the password has been entered and the date has been verified, select [Properties] and [Printing], and ensure that ‘Selected’ is set to ‘Cable’ or ‘Wireless’ on the ‘4400 Print Options’ screen as appropriate for your printer. Use the [OK] button to accept this setting.

In addition, Palm OS handheld computers have further considerations for Bluetooth printing.

  1. On the Palm OS handheld computer, from the ‘House’ Applications menu, select ‘Print Setup’. If a ‘PrintBoy’ wizard shows, it can be [Cancelled].
  2. Under ‘Printer’, select the printer type given for this printer in the ‘Palm OS Printer’ field listed for this printer below.
  3. Once set, then tap on the [Edit] button and ensure the ‘Port’ is set to ‘BlueTooth’. Use [OK] to accept this ‘BlueTooth’ setting.
  4. If asked if you’d like to make this the default printer, select [Yes], and then use the [OK] button to return to the Applications menu, and resume operations.
